Terrorists Lit the Fire. India Will Bring the Storm…..

The terrorist attack targeting tourists in Kashmir is a deplorable act that underscores the continued threat posed by extremist forces of Pakistan operating with impunity. This heinous violence is not merely an isolated incident, but a deliberate strategy aimed at achieving two insidious objectives: to destabilize the economic resurgence of Kashmir and to sow seeds of communal discord within India.

In recent years, the valley has experienced a resurgence in tourism, bringing with it economic revitalization and a renewed sense of peace among locals. The natural beauty of Kashmir—often compared to Switzerland—has drawn travellers from across the country & world, and the resultant economic activity has uplifted many lives. As livelihoods improved, the local population increasingly embraced peace and stability. The widespread condemnation of the attack by Kashmiri residents is a powerful testament to this shift.

However, such progress threatens vested interests—most notably Pakistan’s military establishment, which has historically supported insurgent activities in the region. Since its inception, Pakistan has been entangled in the strategic designs of global powers. During the 1980s, it became the launchpad for U.S.-backed operations against the Soviet Union, with militant groups receiving training and support. The legacy of that era continues to haunt South Asia, as these groups evolved into destabilizing forces.

Today, Pakistan’s military has undergone a disturbing transformation. What were once fringe jihadist influences within the military have now taken centre stage, with senior leadership espousing extremist ideologies. The provocative statements made by Pakistan’s Army Chief shortly before the attack reflect a troubling alignment with terror groups.

Pakistan appears to have miscalculated India’s evolving counter-terrorism stance. A decade ago, following the horrific 2008 Mumbai attacks, India refrained from taking kinetic action. However, the strikes after the Uri and Pathankot attacks marked a decisive change in India’s posture. These bold actions served as a deterrent, significantly reducing large-scale attacks in subsequent years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement following the recent attack was unambiguous: India will pursue not only the perpetrators but also those who support, finance, or sympathize with them. This shift signals that India is prepared to hold the entire terror infrastructure—including Pakistan’s military leadership—accountable.

A question arises: Why has India been more successful in dismantling Naxalite insurgency than cross-border terrorism? The answer lies in geography and sponsorship. Naxalism was a internal issue where India has full control, whereas terrorism in Kashmir has been fuelled and sustained by Pakistan. Addressing it requires cross-border operations, such as the Balakot airstrikes, which India has shown willingness to undertake. More such calibrated actions may follow.

This attack was not only aimed at disturbing Kashmir’s peace but also at igniting communal tensions nationwide. The victims were targeted based on their religion—a calculated attempt to create societal rifts. The brutality of the attack, including the killing of a husband in front of his wife, strikes at the heart of India’s collective conscience.

For decades, India hoped Pakistan would introspect and act responsibly. That hope has faded. This government recognizes the futility of expecting reform from an increasingly rogue state. Yet, internal vulnerabilities remain, particularly the exploitative politics of pseudo-secularism. Some political parties, while projecting themselves as secular, indulge in overt communal appeasement. This narrative confuses the public and weakens national unity, making India more susceptible to external manipulation.

In response to the attack, India has demonstrated its resolve for long-term strategic retribution. By suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, the government has signalled its intent to punish Pakistan beyond its imagination. While the timing and nature of further actions will be determined by strategic necessity, one message is clear: India will not allow such acts to go unanswered.

This moment calls for national unity and unwavering support to government and our armed forces. It is imperative that the country remains vigilant, decisive, and united in its response—internally and externally.
